After a five year rennovation, Louie's Mar Vista celebrates Southern California food from the past and present. Enjoy the Mar Vista Farmer's Market on a Sunday then grab a beer and a bite at Louie's.
Louie's gets most of its local ingredients from the market, so you know everything's fresh!. The rooftop of the building is home to hundreds of bees who live in specially built "bee boxes" and who provide the establishment with pure fresh honey. Try a Bee
Sting cocktail ( $10) for an eye-opener of a drink. Chef John Atkinson (North End Caffe) pays homage to his grandfather Bill and Bill's Navy buddy, Louie. Atkinson brings culinary experience while his wife Laura creates an artistic modern
atmosphere. The interior of Louie's boasts teakwood, Carrera (sculpture) marble, and brass fixtures. The bar is custom made and banquettes are comfy leather. We love the Sunday brunch. Huevos Divorciados (about $13) with Machaca is two tortillas topped
with spiced beef, two fried eggs, two salsas, guacamole, and sour cream. This is one of the most creative breakfast dishes I have sampled in a long time. The name means "divorced eggs" and refers to the eggs being separated by two salsas. Sheet Bacon, Eggs and Toast (about $12) comes with thickly sliced grilled toast that is simply irresistible. Bacon is crazy good too. For dinner try Togarashi Bacon Fries ($7) Togarashi is Japanese-style
chili powder added to bacon powder, covered in pimento cheese sauce. The Short Rib Taco ($7) is rich and saucy with its braised short ribs, avocado, red salsa, queso crema, and micro cilantro. For dinner try the Standard Cheese Burger. ($14). Believe
me, there is nothing standard about this burger. Panko-fried housemade American cheese sits atop a burger with smoked tomato remoulade, lettuce, and pickles. The square of cheese almost as thick as the burger, is what makes it all worth it. Hangar
Steak ($17) with broccoli puree and smoked leek butter is juicy and tender. Enjoy the huge wall mural by local artist Rian Capachi depicting the Old Testament. Show some respect for the animals who gave up their lives for our dining pleasure! Louie's
