We stumbled upon Spark Woodfire Grill quite by accident, but enjoy it all the same. One night we were craving Uncle Andre's BBQ so we schlepped to Magnolia and Laurel Canyon only to be told Uncle
Andre was fresh out of food at 8 p.m. on a Saturday night! In desperate need of dinner we cruised Ventura Boulevard in Studio City for a suitable replacement. Sparkfire was just the ticket. The first time we walked in about 8:30 without reservations and
there were a few empty tables. The hostess asked if we had a reservation to which we answered, no. We wondered why she asked this when so many empty tables abounded. We soon found out why. This place gets a really late crowd. We did manage to score a good
table and service is great. Start off with some delicious sourdough and olive tapenade. Appetizers like the Spicy Tuna Stack ($12.95) with green onions and crispy won tons are beautifully served. The Mini Kobe Beef Dogs ($8.50) are served with wasabi mustard
sauce on the side. Salads are huge and perfect to split. The Fork and Knife ($8.95) a wedge of iceberg, tomatoes, blue cheese, red onion, candied walnuts (we leave these out) blue cheese dressing and hickory smoked bacon ($2) is a wonderful starter. For a
complete meal I love the Spark Cobb ($13.95). Rotisserie chicken, hickory smoked bacon, English cucumber, blue cheese, corn, tomatoes, and sunflower seeds are tossed in buttermilk ranch dressing. Something about the English cucumber makes this salad very refreshing.
Woodfired pizzas are Roman style thin crust baked crisp in a pizza oven. Crust is available in Neopolitan or whole wheat. Try the Smoked Salmon pie with mozzarella, creme fraiche, red onion, fresh dill, and capers ($13.95) or the BBQ Chicken
with BBQ sauce, roasted chicken, red onion, gouda, and fresh cilantro ($13.95). For a tender, juicy entree we enjoy the Hickory Smoked Tri Tip ($19.95) with Shiitake Mushroom Sauce and Raosted Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Dine at Spark for Breakfast, Lunch,
