Augie’s On Main

We strutted into Augie’s on Main fresh from the Farmers Market, feeling very Santa Monica chic — and Murphy the Doodle immediately became the VIP of the patio scene. Water bowls, tail wags, new canine connections… honestly, he may have had more friends than we did.

Now let’s talk about the culinary plot twist: this “casual little sandwich spot” is helmed by none other than two-Michelin-starred chef and Santa Monica native Josiah Citron (yes, that Mélisse Josiah Citron). When a chef of that caliber decides to bless a fried chicken sandwich, you pay attention.

The Dirty Chicken is not just a sandwich — it’s a masterclass in crunch. A perfectly fried, golden breast with shatteringly crisp edges, layered with tomato, pickles, sauce, and a coleslaw that delivers creamy tang in every bite. It’s giving fine-dining technique in a paper-wrapped, no-pretense package — and we are here for it.

My husband went full carnivore with the Roast Beef sandwich, stacked and savory and clearly built by someone who understands depth of flavor. We shared the Froggy Fresh Frties, Corn Ribs (addictive, slightly sweet, wildly snackable) and a Mac and Cheese that was unapologetically rich and nostalgic — the kind that makes you close your eyes mid-bite.

Service? Warm, welcoming, and zero ego — which somehow makes it even cooler knowing there’s serious Michelin pedigree behind the scenes. The vibe is relaxed, outdoorsy, and delightfully un-fussy… but make no mistake: this is chef-driven comfort food with star power.

We came for a casual lunch. We left planning our return.
