Cha Cha Chicken

I Finally Tried This Santa Monica Spot After Driving Past It for 30 Years… and Now I’m Mad at Myself 🍗🌴

You know that restaurant you pass every single day and always say, “We should try that place sometime”?

And then… you don’t.

For years.

Well, after living in Los Angeles my entire life and driving past Cha Cha Chicken roughly 47,000 times, my daughter and I finally decided to do something truly groundbreaking…

We stopped. 🚗💨

And honestly? I’m a little annoyed it took me this long.

Caribbean Vacation Vibes… Without Leaving Santa Monica 🌺🌴

The first thing you notice is the color. The walls are bright, bold, and cheerful—like a Caribbean vacation threw a party and forgot to leave. 🌞🎨

The whole place has relaxed island energy, which feels like a mini escape from the usual Santa Monica chaos. 🌊

Instant mood boost.

Service That Feels… Suspiciously Nice 😅

In an era of QR codes, silent servers, and ordering apps, something magical happened.

The owner, Elvira, actually walks around asking people how their food is. 🤯

Yes. A real human interaction.

And you can genuinely tell she cares about the experience, which feels refreshing in today’s restaurant world where customer service sometimes feels like an endangered species.

The Food (aka Why We’ll Be Back) 🍗🥪

We ordered at the counter and grabbed a spot on the back patio, which has serious laid-back island vibes. 🌴🍽️

My daughter ordered the Cha Cha Chicken — oven-roasted chicken with mildly spiced jerk sauce and rice. 🍗🔥

The chicken was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. She got so quiet while eating it that I briefly wondered if she forgot I existed. Parents know that silence usually means the food is very good. 😄

I ordered the Mulato Cubano Sandwich — shredded chicken breast, cheese, lettuce, pickles, and mustard on a pressed Cuban baguette. 🥪

Let’s talk about this sandwich for a second.

Crispy pressed bread.
Pull-apart tender chicken.
Perfect balance of tangy pickles and mustard.

This sandwich had main character energy.

I also grabbed a grape soda 🥤 because sometimes you just need a drink that tastes like childhood nostalgia in a bottle.

Final Verdict 🍽️

After decades of driving past this place, I can confirm one thing:

Stopping here was long overdue.

With 30 years in Santa Monica, it’s pretty clear Cha Cha Chicken knows exactly what they’re doing—great food, bright atmosphere, and genuinely warm service. 🌴🍗

We’ll definitely be back.

Hopefully before another 30 years pass.
