COD (Catch of the Day)

If you love Asian-inspired seafood and California flair, COD (Catch of the Day) is where your taste buds will pack their bags and move in. Nestled on 3rd Street between La Cienega and Fairfax, this seafood house and raw bar feels like Disneyland for seafood lovers—minus the mouse ears, plus a lot more ponzu.

We rolled in six-deep, which meant one thing: permission to order everything. The Spicy Tuna with Crispy Rice? Gone in seconds. If edible confetti existed, it would be this dish. The Albacore with crispy garlic, ponzu, and chives was so good, it had us reconsidering our lifelong commitment to salmon. And the Shrimp Cocktail? Let’s just say we’ll never look at grocery-store shrimp rings the same way again.

Even the edamame with sea salt and garlic felt like it had graduated from the Ivy League of bean pods. And because self-control is overrated, we dove into sushi: the Spicy Crabmeat Tempura Roll (eel sauce + sriracha + spicy mayo = glorious chaos) and the Lobster Roll in truffle sauce, which basically whispered “luxury” with every bite.

Then came dinner. Or as we like to call it, the banquet of our dreams:

  • Lobster Sandwich in a brioche bun (the buttery, tarragon-packed cousin you actually want at family reunions)
  • Garlic Green Beans (so good they could count as a main character, not a sidekick)
  • Popcorn Shrimp with spicy miso sauce (tiny, crunchy fireworks)
  • Pan-Seared Salmon with sautéed spinach (pure date-night energy)
  • Mongolian Beef in spicy soy sauce (bold enough to have its own theme song)
  • Shrimp Fried Rice (the dish you pretend to “share” but absolutely don’t)
  • Garlic Noodles with Chicken (the comfort food you’ll text about at midnight).

Not a single dish disappointed. In fact, the only real problem is that now we’re spoiled and everything else tastes like “meh.” A return trip to COD? Already penciled in, highlighted, and surrounded by heart doodles.
