I found the best pastry in Los Angeles…by accident!

πŸ₯ SWEET WHEAT BAKERY & BISTRO

Culver City’s French Butter-Fueled Love Letter to Paris πŸ‡«πŸ‡·βœ¨

Spotted with: Murphy the Doodle 🐢

Sometimes the universe sends signs.

Sometimes those signs are croissants.

Murphy and I were innocently walking through Culver City when we stumbled upon Sweet Wheat, a charming French bakery and bistro created by brothers Romain and Alexandre Lecat, who grew up near Paris and trained at the prestigious Γ‰cole de Boulangerie et de PΓ’tisserie de Paris.

Translation: These guys know bread.

The moment you step inside, you’re transported straight to France without having to endure a 12-hour flight, lose your luggage, or pretend to understand French customs forms. The space is beautiful, airy, welcoming, and filled with the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked bread and butter.

And not just any butter.

The good butter. 🧈✨

🍞 The Bread Situation

The bread display is a work of art.

πŸ₯– Fresh Baguettes
πŸ₯– Country Sourdough
πŸ₯– Olive Rosemary Sourdough
πŸ₯– Apricot Raisin Sourdough
πŸ₯– Cranberry Walnut Sourdough
πŸ₯– French Dinner Rolls

Most are under $10, which in Los Angeles feels almost rebellious.

πŸ₯ͺ Sandwiches Worth Canceling Plans For

The sandwich lineup includes:

🐟 Smoked Salmon
🌿 Chicken Pesto
πŸ§€ Parisian Ham & Cheese

Each looked fresh, beautiful, and perfectly executed.

But let’s be honest…

I wasn’t there for restraint.

πŸ₯ The Pastry Case: Where Self-Control Goes To Die

The croissants are everything you want them to be:

✨ Flaky
✨ Buttery
✨ Light
✨ Life-changing

Even the mini croissants are dangerous because they convince you that eating six somehow counts as moderation.

The warm Ham & Cheese Croissant deserves its own fan club.

πŸ‘‘ THE STAR OF THE SHOW: KOUIGN-AMANN

Friends.

I need a moment.

This Kouign-Amann is made with laminated pastry and rich French Isigny butter.

One bite and I immediately understood why people write poetry.

This may genuinely be one of the best pastries I have ever eaten.

Not best in Culver City.

Not best in LA.

Best ever.

Period.

⭐ If pastries received stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, this one would have two.

I may or may not have purchased three additional Kouign-Amanns for “quality control.”

πŸͺ Also Worth Ordering

βœ”οΈ Palmiers
βœ”οΈ Macarons (Vanilla, Raspberry, Lemon, Pistachio, Chocolate, Red Velvet & more)
βœ”οΈ Tartlets
βœ”οΈ Quiche
βœ”οΈ Soups & Salads

Everything looked meticulously crafted and authentically French.

πŸ‘ PROS

βœ… Exceptional French pastries
βœ… Authentic Parisian baking techniques
βœ… Incredible Kouign-Amann
βœ… Beautiful dining room and patio
βœ… Friendly service
βœ… Excellent bread selection
βœ… Reasonable pricing for the quality
βœ… Dog-friendly outdoor seating 🐢

πŸ‘Ž CONS

❌ You will spend more than you planned

❌ You will think about the Kouign-Amann for days afterward

❌ Your future pastries may disappoint you

πŸ’° PRICE

$ = Budget Friendly
$$ = Moderate
$$$ = Splurge

Sweet Wheat Rating: $$

Most breads under $10, pastries reasonably priced, and quality far exceeds the cost.

⭐ FINAL VERDICT

9.7/10

Sweet Wheat isn’t just a bakery.

It’s a tiny Parisian escape hidden in Culver City.

Come for the bread.

Stay for the croissants.

Lose all self-control for the Kouign-Amann.

Murphy and I arrived for a walk and left with pastries, bread, and a completely unreasonable emotional attachment to French butter.

And honestly?

No regrets. πŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸ₯β€οΈ
