Los Angeles isn’t exactly hurting for Mexican restaurants. Around here, opening another taco spot is a little like opening another Pilates studio—there’s already one on every corner.

So when Diablos Tacos opened on Lincoln Boulevard in Marina del Rey, practically in my own backyard, I had to see what all the buzz was about. Was this just another trendy taco shop, or could it actually become one of the best new Mexican grills in Los Angeles?

For dinner, my husband ordered the chicken and cheese enchiladas while I went straight for the Diablos Burrito with halal chicken, black beans, rice, guacamole, and Diablos sauce. I also stole several bites of his enchiladas in the name of journalism…and because that’s what married people do.

First Impressions

Diablos Tacos offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Since Murphy the Doodle joined us for dinner, we grabbed a table on the patio. Murphy accepted this arrangement with all the enthusiasm of someone who had just discovered dogs don’t get to make the seating decisions.

If you’re not bringing a four-legged dining companion, the inside is worth seeing. The black-and-gold décor gives the restaurant a modern, polished feel that’s a step above your average neighborhood taco shop. Everything felt clean, welcoming, and comfortable.

The employees couldn’t have been nicer. Since it was our first visit, they patiently walked us through the menu, answered our questions, and made us feel right at home.

The Diablos Burrito

The Diablos Burrito was hands-down the star of dinner.

Filled with halal chicken, black beans, rice, guacamole, and Diablos sauce, this wasn’t one of those disappointing burritos where you spend half the meal wondering if the chicken accidentally wandered into someone else’s order. Every bite was packed with juicy, flavorful chicken.

The guacamole added just the right amount of creaminess, while the Diablos sauce brought enough heat to keep things interesting without overpowering the rest of the ingredients.

And then there’s the size.

This burrito was huge. I happily surrendered halfway through and brought the rest home. Any meal that becomes tomorrow’s lunch is a winner in my book.

The Chicken and Cheese Enchiladas

My husband ordered the chicken and cheese enchiladas with black beans and rice.

Naturally, I sampled them. Strictly for research purposes.

The enchiladas were cheesy, comforting, and satisfying—the kind of meal you’d happily order if you’re craving classic Mexican comfort food.

But after trying both dishes, the burrito was the clear winner.

Sorry, enchiladas.

The menu is extensive, with tacos, burritos, bowls, quesadillas, fajitas, nachos, taquitos, enchiladas, asada fries, salads, kids’ meals, desserts, and several protein choices, including halal chicken, steak, shrimp, fish, and vegetarian options.

Ironically, I went to a restaurant called Diablos Tacos…and ordered a burrito.

Looks like I’ll just have to go back.

If it’s your first visit, order the Diablos Burrito.

It’s generously filled, packed with flavor, and easily large enough for leftovers unless you arrive absolutely starving.
