The Night We Finally Gave In to Jame (and Fell Completely in Love)
You know that restaurant you pass every single time you’re in town — the one that always looks a little too good, but somehow you never actually go in? For us, that place was Jame in El Segundo. We’ve probably walked by it 147 times muttering, “We should try that sometime.”
Well, “sometime” finally happened. And now I’m wondering why I wasted all that time not eating here.
We made a reservation for four (because apparently, everyone in El Segundo already knows how great this place is), and from the second we sat down on their beautiful outdoor patio — string lights twinkling, soft breeze, faint whiff of grilled perfection in the air — we knew we were in for something good.
And oh my carbs, was it good.
The Feast
Let’s start with the broccolini, because Jame somehow made vegetables feel fancy. Perfectly blistered, drizzled with something deliciously mysterious, and seasoned just right — it’s the kind of dish that makes you think, “Maybe I am a vegetable person now.”
Then came the grilled hanger steak — smoky, juicy, and cooked so perfectly that everyone at the table stopped talking for a solid minute. You know a dish is good when the entire table goes silent except for a chorus of happy chewing noises.
The Branzino was next — light, crispy-skinned, and flaky in that “I’ve mastered the art of seafood” kind of way. It’s giving main character energy, paired perfectly with a citrusy brightness that made the whole plate sing.
The meatballs were tender, saucy, and unapologetically comforting — the kind of dish that feels like a hug from your Italian grandma (even if you don’t have one).
And then, the star of the show: the Tonnarelli. Hand-cut, chewy perfection, coated in a sauce that can only be described as “I would bathe in this.” You can tell the pasta is fresh because it tastes alive — there’s just something about freshly made pasta that makes you momentarily forget your life problems.
And because we clearly have zero self-control, we also ordered the brussels sprouts — crispy little caramelized gems that disappeared faster than the waiter could put the plate down.
The Experience
The service was as flawless as the food. Our server somehow anticipated everything before we even asked. Water refilled? Done. More bread? Magically appears. Wine suggestion? Nailed it.
And the outdoor patio? Cozy, relaxed, and perfect for people-watching. It’s got that “casual neighborhood gem meets date-night elegance” energy — chill enough for a Tuesday, but nice enough to feel like you’re treating yourself.
Final Thoughts
Jame has officially entered our “must-return” list. The kind of place you start planning your next visit before you’ve even finished dessert (which we didn’t have room for, but we’ll be back to correct that mistake).
If you’ve been passing by Jame thinking, “We should go there someday,” let this be your sign: go now.
Your future, well-fed self will thank you.
TL;DR:
✅ Outstanding food (get the Tonnarelli — trust me).
✅ Perfect service.
✅ Gorgeous patio.
✅ You’ll leave full, happy, and slightly jealous of anyone who lives close enough to eat here weekly.
