Marty’s

Some places don’t need trends, fancy toppings, or a rebrand—they just need a hot grill and decades of doing it right. Marty’s is one of those places. This LA burger institution has been holding it down since 1959, and after one visit, we fully understand how it’s stood the test of time.

We walked in with the best intentions, fully planning to “keep it simple,” and then immediately abandoned all self-control. Faced with too many good options, we did the only logical thing: ordered like we were feeding a small softball team.

The cheeseburger with everything—including grilled onions—was first up, and it was pure old-school perfection. Perfectly char-broiled, juicy, messy in the best way, and exactly the kind of burger that reminds you why classics never go out of style. This is the burger you want when you don’t want to think—just eat.

I also ordered the Vienna Beef hot dog, because when you see Vienna Beef on the menu, you don’t ask questions. You order it. Naturally, I shared a bite with Murphy the Doodle—my assistant, moral support animal, and extremely serious food critic. He gave it an enthusiastic paw of approval.

As if that wasn’t enough, we added a regular burger and the legendary 50/50 combo of fries and onion rings. The fries were solid, but the onion rings were the real star—golden, crunchy, and absolutely fight-worthy. I did, in fact, battle my husband for the last one, and I stand by my actions.

We took everything out to the back patio, soaked up the sunshine, and ate like it was 1959 and calories were merely a suggestion. By the time we left, we were completely stuffed, wildly satisfied, and reminded why places like Marty’s are such a treasure. No frills, no nonsense—just really good burgers done the old-school way.
