Slay Hermosa Beach

We’ve dined at Slay Manhattan Beach many times, but last night was our first visit to Slay Hermosa—and what a fantastic surprise. The space has such a charming, warm, and welcoming vibe, and the service was outstanding. I was extra delighted to learn that the same group owns Bottle Inn and Martha’s, two of my longtime Hermosa favorites!

Cocktails:
Of course, we started with drinks. The Red Sangria was full of fresh fruit and had a wonderfully robust flavor—I had to stop myself from fishing out the fruit at the bottom! The Sparkling Raspberry Martini was the standout of the night: refreshing, lightly sweet, and beautifully balanced with kir, prosecco, fresh raspberries, and a sugar rim. We also enjoyed a perfectly chilled Modelo.

Shared Plates:
We ordered a lot (as usual!) and were glad we did.

  • Bacon-Wrapped Scallops with Cape Cod wildflower honey and mustard—perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious.
  • Lamb Meatballs with herb jus, spinach, and oregano feta—rich, tender, and flavorful.
  • Parker House Rolls with soft herb butter—warm, fluffy, irresistible.
  • Ahi Tuna Stack with cucumber, avocado, and spicy jalapeño soy—fresh and vibrant.

Salads:
Both were excellent—the classic Caesar with crushed croutons and parmesan, and the Wedge with housemade ranch, pepper bacon, red onion, tomato, and blue cheese crumbles.

Entrées:
The Sautéed Filet of Sole was a standout—panko-crusted with a meunière drizzle and grilled lemon. We swapped the green beans and shallots for parmesan risotto (thank you, Slay!) and it was the perfect pairing. The Boneless Half Jidori Chicken with cacio e pepe marble potatoes and leeks was also a hit—comforting and delicious.

Our only regrets? Eating so much that we couldn’t try dessert… and not buying a Slay Hermosa sweatshirt, because I’d proudly wear it!

We’ll definitely be back.
