La Vecchia Strikes Again!

After 20+ years, countless bowls of pasta, and enough garlic oil to repel an army of vampires 🧄, we still can’t stop coming back.

⚠️ Warning: Reading this review may cause an immediate craving for garlic oil, tiramisu, and a reservation at La Vecchia.

We’ve been eating authentic Italian cuisine at La Vecchia since before Teslas were a thing—back when summoning meant yelling your kids’ names across a parking lot and the only thing that drove itself was your grandmother’s guilt.

Decades later, La Vecchia is still our go-to spot for excellent service, wonderful food, and the kind of consistency you wish your gym routine had.

We’ve taken friends from near, far, and everywhere in between, and every single one leaves plotting their return. Holidays? Perfect. Date nights? Perfect. Casual Saturday nights? Even better.

The problem with La Vecchia is that it ruins other Italian restaurants.

You sit down somewhere else, take a bite of pasta, and immediately start comparing it to La Vecchia.

That’s not fair to the other restaurant.

But it’s also not our fault.

Last time was classic La Vecchia. The place was absolutely packed, yet we were seated immediately—like they sensed we were on a culinary mission and decided not to waste valuable pasta time.

Before we even get to the food, we need to talk about the bread and garlic oil.

Because the garlic oil deserves its own review.

Most restaurants bring bread to the table.

La Vecchia brings temptation.

Their warm bread arrives with a garlic-infused olive oil so addictive that every visit begins with the same lie:

I’m only having one piece.

Five pieces later, I’m still sampling.

Scientists should study this oil.

The FDA should probably get involved.

If vampires exist, they avoid Santa Monica entirely. 🧄🧛

We kicked things off with the Stella Filante cocktail 🍸—vodka, grapefruit juice, St-Germain, Prosecco, and a lemon twist.

Basically sunshine in a glass.

If sunshine could get you tipsy.

I’d order it again, again, and again, until my husband gently takes away the menu and reminds me we’re supposed to be eating dinner.

Food-wise, La Vecchia continues its decades-long streak of making us question why we ever order Italian food anywhere else.

Squash Blossoms 🌼 — Some of the best in the city. They’re so good they should have their own fan club, newsletter, and annual convention.

Calamari Fritti — Crispy perfection served with a spicy marinara sauce that could wake the dead.

In a good way.

Pollo Milanese — Breaded chicken breast topped with baby arugula and tomatoes tossed in extra virgin olive oil. One of the city’s best.

And yes, I always add more garlic oil.

At this point I’m either warding off vampires or achieving enlightenment.

Possibly both.

Scampi La Vecchia 🍤 — Wild blue shrimp sautéed with garlic and rosemary in a white wine sauce so good I’d happily drink it straight from the pan if society allowed it.

Linguini Alle Vongole 🦪 — Clams, garlic, parsley, white wine.

Simple.

Perfect.

Angelic.

Then there are the dishes that deserve honorary lifetime achievement awards 🏆:

Rigatoni Bolognese

Lasagna Della Nonna

Literally any pizza on the menu 🍕.

Seriously.

Just point and order.

Also, do not—I repeat, do NOT—skip the Caesar Salad.

I know nobody drives across Los Angeles dreaming about salad.

Neither do we.

But this one arrives with homemade dressing and a glorious mound of Parmigiano Reggiano that transforms it from side dish into personality trait.

And dessert?

The tiramisu. ☕🍰

Always the tiramisu.

It’s one of the reasons La Vecchia remains firmly planted in our Top 10.

It’s also the reason I don’t fit into my jeans from 1990.

No regrets.

After more than two decades, countless celebrations, family dinners, holidays, date nights, and enough garlic oil to season a small country, La Vecchia still delivers something surprisingly rare:

It never disappoints.

The food is exceptional.

The service is warm.

The atmosphere feels like home.

Some restaurants chase trends.

La Vecchia became a tradition. ❤️🇮🇹

And judging by the packed dining room every time we visit, we’re clearly not the only ones who feel that way.
