The Place to Be

This adorable little French bakery is tucked into Main Street near Ocean Park like it’s hiding from the carb police. Chef Matthieu is in the back crafting breads and pastries with such traditional French techniques I’m convinced he was trained by actual pastry-loving woodland elves. The Place to Be is family-owned, cozy, and basically a teleportation device straight to France—no passport, just pastries.

For breakfast, we started with the Butter Croissant, which was so airy and flaky it practically levitated off the plate. One bite and it dissolved in my mouth like buttery pastry confetti. Then came the Ham and Cheese Croissant. I did not share. I would not share. I regret nothing.

And then…the Cinnamon Roll. This glorious spiral of doughy perfection was stuffed with cinnamon and smothered in a creamy vanilla icing that I’m still emotionally attached to. It was the size of my face, so I begrudgingly shared a corner. A small one.

Service? Fast, friendly, and impressively unfazed by the number of noises I made while eating. I’m absolutely coming back to tackle the breakfast and lunch menus. I’m already visualizing myself dramatically devouring a sandwich.

The Place to Be? Yeah. It’s absolutely the place to be—especially if you believe carbs are a love language.
