The Serving Spoon

My friend and I rolled into The Serving Spoon this morning after reading the LA Times hype, fully prepared to investigate the situation like two extremely serious breakfast journalists πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™€οΈπŸ³

I’m happy to report: the hype is not only real… it might actually be an understatement.

There were people waiting outside, which is always a good sign. In LA, if no one is waiting, something is wrong πŸ˜… But the line moved quickly and soon we were seated, hungry, hopeful, and emotionally ready for waffles πŸ§‡

First of all, can we talk about the hospitality? The staff here are so friendly it almost feels suspicious, like everyone secretly went to Charm School πŸ˜‚ One of the owners, Jessica, personally came by every table to check on people. Every. Table. In Los Angeles. I nearly fainted. That kind of service is rarer than affordable parking πŸš—πŸ’Έ

Now let’s discuss the food, because WOW 🀀

I ordered The Big Spoon ($19.95), which should honestly come with a warning label and possibly a small forklift πŸ—οΈπŸ½οΈ I had the waffle (light, fluffy, and spiritually uplifting πŸ§‡βœ¨), sausage patties, and skillet cornbread that made me briefly consider starting a cornbread fan club 🌽❀️

My friend got the same breakfast with bacon and a biscuit and entered what can only be described as a breakfast trance πŸ₯“πŸ˜Œ

But then β€” plot twist β€” we also ordered the five fried chicken wings ($6.25). These wings were so good they deserve their own reality show πŸ—πŸ”₯ Crispy, perfectly cooked, crunchy in that deeply satisfying way that makes the whole table go silent except for happy chewing noises 🀀

The coffee was strong, hot, and did exactly what coffee is supposed to do: make life feel manageable again β˜•οΈπŸ™Œ

Portions here are generous enough to feed a small village πŸ˜‚ but if you’re feeling responsible you can order the Mini Spooner (half size). Responsible choices were not made today πŸ˜…

The vibe is classic diner perfection β€” comfy booths, a proper counter for that authentic diner experience, and the kind of atmosphere where you immediately start planning what you’ll order next time before you’ve even finished eating 🍳✨

Long story short: we came because of the LA Times article, and we left emotionally attached to this restaurant ❀️

The Serving Spoon: come hungry, wear stretchy pants, and prepare to fall in love with breakfast all over again πŸ˜‹
