The Stand

If you ever need proof that the universe wants you to eat well, just bring two dogs to The Stand in Calabasas on a sunny afternoon. The patio is basically a VIP lounge for people who appreciate good food, fresh air, and canine side-eye. While the pups worked overtime supervising our table, we settled into a leisurely lunch that could easily be described as “casual dining, but make it bougie.”

First up: my Build-Your-Own Turkey Burger, lettuce-wrapped because we like to pretend that we make responsible life choices. We stacked pickles, mustard, gruyere cheese, and mushrooms onto that thing like we were building a tiny edible condo. The flavors were A+ — tangy from the mustard, salty-crunchy pickles, and that buttery gruyere that politely reminds American cheese that it has hobbies and healthier coping mechanisms. Mushrooms added umami and moisture, zero complaints. If cleanliness is next to godliness, then this burger was deeply sinful, because it dripped everywhere and we loved every second of it.

The supporting cast did not come to play. The Grand Stand Turkey Sandwich was thick enough to double as a tiny free weight, the Crispy Chicken Bites triggered childhood happiness, and the Cobb Chop Salad remains my forever favorite — loaded, balanced, and reliably satisfying. I swear if they ever discontinue it, I’ll file at least three strongly worded emails.

Service at The Stand is consistently friendly in that “I actually like my job and also you’re not difficult” way that feels increasingly rare in the world. Food comes out steady, flavors are consistent, and the kitchen seems to understand timing, texture, and the spiritual importance of crunchy lettuce.

Meanwhile, our pups rated their experience highly despite the tragic lack of menu items specifically designed for spoiled dogs. They spent the entire meal doing important work: people-watching, drooling discreetly, and giving the server puppy eyes so aggressive they could be considered emotional warfare.

Verdict: 10/10 Calabasas patio vibes with bonus points for dog-friendliness, edible architecture, and gruyere-induced serotonin.
