🍽️ My Experience at Wally’s
We celebrated Mother’s Day here yesterday with a group of six and somehow, despite the full brunch chaos, everything ran surprisingly smoothly.
Every mom was greeted with champagne and multiple “Happy Mother’s Days” from the staff—which honestly felt very wholesome and slightly dangerous before noon.
The place was packed, but our reservation was honored right on time. Already off to a strong start.
We sat at a high-top table (which I actually prefer because the chairs have backs—tiny detail, huge win), settled in, and prepared ourselves for brunch.
⭐ The Food
Let’s talk about the real star—THE FOOD.
Two of us ordered the Caprese Sandwich:
👉 Heirloom tomato, buffalo mozzarella, basil, arugula, chicken, and sun-dried tomato pesto on ciabatta.
Fresh, flavorful, solid choice.
But honestly?
None of that mattered once the grilled cheese arrived.
👉 Gruyère, gouda, shallot chutney, bacon added because we believe in joy…
This sandwich is so good I genuinely consider it one of the best sandwiches in Los Angeles.
Not “best grilled cheese.”
Not “best brunch sandwich.”
👉 Best sandwiches. Period.
At some point I completely stopped participating in conversation and focused entirely on the sandwich…which honestly tells you everything.
We also shared:
- Truffle Eggs Benedict
- Charcuterie board with cheeses + duck mousse
- Truffle fries loaded with parmesan, truffle oil, and shaved truffle because subtlety was never the goal
Everything hit.
And somehow, I still had enough self-control to bring half the grilled cheese home for lunch today. Character development.
🙌 Service
Outstanding from start to finish. Warm, attentive, and impressively organized considering how packed it was.
🍴 What to Order
Don’t overthink it:
- Grilled cheese (mandatory)
- Truffle fries
- Charcuterie board
- Champagne if someone else is driving
👍 Pros & 👎 Cons
Pros:
- One of the best grilled cheese sandwiches in LA
- Great celebratory brunch spot
- Excellent service
- Strong food + wine program
Cons:
- Loud and crowded during peak brunch
- Pricey
- You will spend the next 48 hours thinking about the grilled cheese
💡 Tips Before You Go
- Make a reservation
- Sit at a high top if possible
- Add bacon to the grilled cheese (trust me)
- Don’t wear white near the truffle fries
⭐ Final Verdict
A chaotic-but-fun brunch spot powered almost entirely by one elite grilled cheese sandwich.
LA Eats Worth It? Yes. Come for the champagne, stay for the sandwich, and prepare to become emotionally attached.
